I Need Help in Fighting My Gambling Addiction?

Question by life’sgood: I need help in fighting my gambling addiction?
After playing poker for about 6 months I have lost about 2000 dollars and I feel sick now. I felt that I was in control of my life until I started playing poker. Now I really want to get that 2000 dollars back and just quit playing but it seems as if I am in this vicious cycle which just doesnt seem to end. Please help me. I really want to be successful in my life and not by finding some short route to success. I believe I am a very good student and am doing really well in my studies but just cant get over the money that i have lost in playing this card game. Any help would be appreciated. I really feel helpless now.

Thanks for the help

You are close to getting help. The first step of ANY addiction is admitting you are powerless and that you need help.

The second step is seeking that help.

There are a number of resources out there:

Gamblers Anonymous
there are 800 numbers for gambling addicts
and it is recognized now as an addiction

I encourage you to seek out and get the help you need. This is a good start and you are well on your way to getting that help you need.

One to one counseling is very effective in treating this and there are counselors that specialize in it. Depending on your locale, that may be the best route to get started in beating this.
